Taking on the first artistic direction of the square - a title since passed down from father to son - Robert Dumas designs the very first square in history. Entitled Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches, the piece is actually inspired by a particular theme of the time… that of Parisian public transport, which was then emerging.

But the power of Hermès lies in the details. Robert Dumas actually takes care to add a touch of humor with this amusing inscription “A good player never gets angry.” The lightness of the square thus breaks with the austerity of the time.
