The idea for this scarf was inspired by the reflection of the author’s grand-father, renowned garden designer Achille Duchêne, in his Jardin de l’intelligence and Jardin de l’avenir. In the beginning there is nothing…Then, an idea begins to emerge. The hand then tries to trace the contours of a forming image that the author must learn to tame. In the center of the circle, the original idea is formed from fireworks and typographical letters: the artificer on horseback symbolizes Hermès’ 150 years of existence. Already, the drawing starts to take the form of words that surround the horseman (or perhaps liberate him). The idea comes to life in these words, which continue to infinity. There is no shortage of words when an idea is present. The diagram thus represents the pursuit of a nascent idea, and the circle of words pays tribute to the unending idea that is sought out and realized. Writing and drawing then requires losing an idea in favor of something beyond us, in favor of a flow of words that touches the infinite. The author has included Jean-Louis Dumas’ signature as a nod to the house’s former chairman.
