Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Buckingham Palace… On horseback, and not just any horse — the one at the center of the design is a Windsor Grey, the very breed that pulls the famous Gold State Coach. The lively play of its reins frames the equally regal Queen Alexandra’s State Coach and Diamond Jubilee State Coach. In the corners of the carré, the symbols of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland are delicately placed on colorful wheels, uniting the four countries of the kingdom. The English illustrator Stuart Patience drew his inspiration during a visit to the Royal Mews, the royal family’s stables, which graciously opened their doors to Hermès for the creation of this carré.
