The berlin carriage first appeared in the 17th century. As the name suggests, the model was pioneered in Berlin. Designed as a travelling coach, it was used in the 18th century for city transport and special occasions. The berlin was more stable and reliable than other carriages, and its name in French has transferred to the modern saloon car - a testament to its enduring qualities. Françoise La Perrière’s design of alternating coachwork and decorated panels is a tribute to its distinctive architecture.
